The High School Musical alum has been the subject of plastic surgery rumors for months, ever since he appeared in Bill Nye’s Earth Day Special in 2021 with his jaw looking noticeably different. Now, Efron is addressing the rumors, while sharing the much darker story behind the apparent changes to his face. Efron, 34, actually shattered his jaw back in 2013 after slipping in a puddle of water and hitting his face on a granite fountain at his home, which resulted in him getting his mouth wired shut. “It sucks.I almost died, but we’re good,” he stated to Entertainment Tonight during an appearance at the Toronto International Film Festival on Tuesday, Sept. 13, though he did not elaborate on the specifics. The Baywatch star also explained the story during an interview with Men’s Health, where he recalled his chin bone “hanging off his face” when he regained consciousness after the fall. As a result of the injury, Efron works with a specialist to keep his jaw muscles working properly, although he wasn’t keeping up with physical therapy during his Australian sabbatical during the COVID-19 pandemic. “The masseters just grew,” he told Men’s Health, referring to the muscles in the cheek. “They just got really big,” which explained why his face looked so different during his video appearance last year. Even though Efron has put the plastic surgery rumors to rest, he claims he was never really bothered by them in the first place. “My mom told me [about the rumors]. I don’t really read the internet, so, I don’t really give a f–k,” Efron told Entertainment Tonight on Tuesday. He also revealed in the Men’s Health October cover story that he hasn’t been one to keep up with social media ever since becoming a celebrity while he was still a teenager. “If I valued what other people thought of me to the extent that they may think I do,” he said, “I definitely wouldn’t be able to do this work.” Efron’s red carpet appearance this week marks his first in three years. His upcoming movie, The Greatest Beer Run Ever, premieres on AppleTV+ on Friday, Sept. 30. More News:
