During a visit to a Harlem school yesterday during the Duke and Duchess of Sussex’s whirlwind trip to New York, Meghan wore a jaw-dropping oversize red suit. The cashmere red jacket by Loro Piana retails at $5,840 and features an orange lining, glimpses of which were provided by the Duchess when she turned back the sleeves. Best of all, it’s reversible! Maybe we’ll catch Meghan wearing it the orange way some other time. Her matching wide-legged pants were by the same designer, and Meghan also accessorized with a matching turtleneck, a matching belt, and matching pumps—now that’s coordination. She finished the look with her usual Cartier ‘Love’ bracelet, Princess Diana’s Cartier watch, and her $3000 gold tennis bracelet by Jennifer Meyer—along with Birks diamond and rose-gold ‘snowflake’ ring, which she wore alongside her engagement ring. During her visit to Mahalia Jackson School, the duchess read to students from her children’s book, The Bench, while her husband sat cross-legged on the ground alongside the avid listeners. Meghan was also videoed hugging a student who broke down in tears, overwhelmed by emotion at the couple’s visit. Before they left, the Sussexes left donations of garden boxes for growing vegetables and herbs. Their next stop was a lunch date at Melba’s, a soul food institution in Harlem—where Prince Harry dined on chicken and waffles for the very first time! Collard greens were also ordered by the couple—which Harry has had before thanks to his mother-in-law Doria Ragland’s home cooking—as were spring rolls, catfish and yams. The restaurant’s owner, Melba Wilson, said on Twitter that Meghan and Harry had pledged a donation of $25k to the restaurant in order to support its workers, who like many others working in the city’s restaurant industry have been financially affected by the pandemic. Meghan and Harry kicked off their visit to New York on Thursday morning by visiting the One World Observatory with Mayor Bill de Blasio and Governor Kathy Hochu, and also took time to pay their respects at the 9/11 memorial at the One World Trade Center. Tomorrow they’ll appear at the Global Citizen concert in Central Park, at which they will advocate for vaccine equity across the world.
