A source confirmed to Harper’s Bazaarthat Harry will be “following all US and UK Covid-19 protocols in the process” as he makes his way from Montecito, California, to Windsor Castle where his grandmother Queen Elizabeth IIis mourning Prince Philip and where the funeral will be conducted a week from today. However, Meghan Markle will remain at home with the couple’s son Archie, as she is heavily pregnant with the couple’s second child and didn’t receive the all-clear to fly. The source said that the Duchess of Sussex “made every effort to travel alongside the duke, but unfortunately, she did not receive medical clearance from her physician.” Due to COVID-19 restrictions, only 30 people can attend funerals in Britain at the moment. Bazaar reports that in addition to members of the royal family, members of Philip’s staff—including his valet, page and private secretary—will also be in attendance. Currently, Philip’s coffin is in the queen’s private chapel at Windsor Castle, and on Saturday will be transferred to St George’s Chapel for the funeral, which will be held at 3 pm GMT. It will be a bittersweet return to the chapel for Harry, who married Meghan there almost exactly three years ago. The College of Arms, which is in charge of the funeral arrangements, has requested that members of the public “do not attempt to attend or participate in any of the events that make up the funeral.” The original plan for the Duke of Edinburgh’s funeral, whose codename is ‘Operation Forth Bridge’, has been in place for years and would have included a period of lying in the state—which would have seen hundreds of thousands of people queuing up to view his coffin—and a military procession through crowded streets. Next up, where will Prince Philip be buried?
