Now, we’re dying to know which husbands will be returning. It was just announced that Chris Noth, who played Big, Carrie’s husband, has signed on for the series. Luckily, we spoke to David Eigenberg, who played Steve, Cynthia’s husband, ourselves about it. During a Zoom junket for NBC’s Chicago Fire on which Eigenberg is a series regular, Parade.com was able to ask about his role in the upcoming HBO Max series. No mention has yet been made about the status of the men in their lives. Carrie was married to Big (Noth), Charlotte to Harry (Evan Handler) and Miranda to Steve (Eigenberg). And while Sex and the City elevated the power of female friendship and how women support each other, even though their lives weren’t defined by the men in them, the men did significantly contribute to the series’ storylines. When we last saw the women together, it was for Charlotte’s daughter’s third birthday party at the close of the Sex and the City 2 movie, and all three couples were together, so the hope is they still would be.

Will Big be back with Carrie on Sex and the City’s And Just Like That…?

Despite earlier reports that Noth would not be returning to the Sex and the City sequel, titled And Just Like That…, we now have Big news! On Wednesday, HBO Max confirmed that Noth is the latest member of the series to be returning to reprise his role. “I’m thrilled to be working with Chris again on And Just Like That…’” executive producer Michael Patrick King said in a release. “How could we ever do a new chapter of the Sex and the City story without our Mr. Big?” Noth once told Parade.com, “It was a glorious time when we did [Sex and the City].”

Please tell us Miranda and Steve still be together on Sex and the City’s And Just Like That…!

As for Eigenberg, he has been a regular on Chicago Fire since 2012, which actually shoots in Chicago, so he would have a bit more difficulty juggling schedules, unless And Just Like That… were to film when both Chicago Fire and The Equalizer were on hiatus. Wouldn’t that be perfect? But, Miranda and Steve did face some seemingly insurmountable issues in the first film (well, they always had their differences) when Steve admitted to cheating and Miranda was completely disconnected from their marriage. As we all know, they forgave each other and were together in the second film, but it’s highly possible some issues could resurface, leading to a split. Don’t lose hope! Eigenberg sure hasn’t. “Obviously, my heart and soul lie here at Chicago Fire, but we’re seeing what happens,” he told us during the Chicago Fire junket. “We’ve had some discussions and it looks like our hiatus could line up with their start, but they have to fully understand that this show comes first." He continued, “So I would say that there’s a good possibility I may reunite with my wonderful colleagues there in New York City on Sex and the City.”

So, could Carrie be with Aidan?!

If Noth isn’t available or they do decide to kill him off, And Just Like That… could revisit Carrie’s relationship with Aidan (John Corbett), but that feels as if it wrapped up in Sex and the City 2 with the scandalous kiss that took place in Abu Dhabi between the two now married former lovers. Carrie may be “the one that got away,” but Aidan is really not right for her. Even when they were dating, she knew that she didn’t want the “normal” life he had planned: to get married, have kids and build his business. And in a way, Aidan realizes that Carrie is not like other women. He could never get her to wear her engagement ring. And that is the one thing that the kiss changed; it actually helped cement Carrie’s relationship with Big. After she confessed, he went out and bought her a big, black diamond and for the first time, she was happy to wear a wedding ring. Next, read up on theGame of Thrones prequel coming to HBO Max.
