While some Hollywood celebrities date around, others tend to stick to monogamist relationships, and The Weeknd has had two significant relationships during his time in the spotlight. His on again off again relationship with supermodel Bella Hadid, and singer Selena Gomez. Now, rumors are sparking over who he has reconciled with or if he has a new love. So who is The Weeknd’s girlfriend now? Let’s take a look.
The Weeknd approached supermodel Bella Hadid for a project in 2015
The Weeknd met the beauty in 2015 and asked her to pose for the cover art of his album Beauty Behind the Madness, according to Rolling Stone. “My motive was literally to work with her,” he admitted. However, when she declined, “I was like, ‘All right, cool—we can meet up face-to-face.’” That meeting must have been pretty memorable, because they made their public debut shortly after.
The Weeknd and Bella Hadid were spotted together before it became official
The couple celebrated New York Fashion Week together, photographed leaving the Alexander Wang show hand in hand. Then a few weeks later, they were spotted in Soho with Bella’s sister Gigi Hadid and mom Yolanda Hadid. “It just kind of fell into my lap,” The Weeknd recalled. “If I’d met someone two years ago, I probably would’ve f–ked it up. But I’m more—how do I say it?—clear-thinking now.” In fact, a source spilled the beans to E! News, “They were hanging out in Coachella and were flirting lots. They have many things in common and really enjoyed each other’s company. She loves his music as well. They are hanging out for sure now.”
He was there to help her celebrate her 19th and 20th birthdays

Bella Hadid appeared in a music video for The Weeknd
Hadid appeared in the music video for The Weeknd’s song, “In the Night.” As quickly as things heated up, they cooled off. The couple took a break at the end of 2015 due to their schedules, but they remained in each other’s lives.
They made their official red carpet debut in 2016
The stars aligned and the couple were back on. At the 2016 Grammys, The Weeknd was a big winner, and Hadid was happy to be the supportive girlfriend. She told Glamour, “It was a big night for him. He has worked so hard, and he did so well that night. As a girlfriend I wanted to be there to support him. Seeing him so happy when he won a Grammy made me so happy.” She went on to say she saw him as Abel, not The Weeknd. “I’m dating Abel. I don’t see him as The Weeknd. I’m proud of The Weeknd and the music he makes, but I really love Abel.” The two would make multiple public appearances including at the 2016 Met Gala. But another break in November of 2016 sent them on their separate ways due to scheduling issues. The Weeknd’s album Starboy was released. News broke shortly after that he’d be performing on the same Victoria’s Secret stage as Hadid that December. When asked about the situation, Hadid said, “This is his second year performing, and I think he’s going to kill it. There is no awkwardness. He is my best friend, and I am excited because I am walking during his performance.”
The Weeknd dated Selena Gomez for 10 months
It all started in January 2017, when The Weeknd and Selena were spotted on a series of dinner dates. They traveled to Italy and The Weeknd’s hometown of Toronto together and got cozy at Coachella. They made their red carpet debut at the Met Gala in May 2017. The two broke up 10 months later.
The Weeknd and Bella Hadid got back together in 2018
It was reported that shortly after his split from Gomez, The Weeknd was seen leaving Hadid’s apartment in New York City. However, it wasn’t until April of 2018 that they were rumored to be officially back together. They were even reportedly planning to move in together and possibly get engaged. But by August 2019, the couple took another break.
The Weeknd’s music reflects his relationships with both exes
Two singles from The Weeknd’s album After Hours were released. Lyrics in both “Heartless” and “Blinding Lights” seemingly addressed the breakups from both women. In “Heartless,” lyrics reference his reconciliation with Hadid after breaking up with Gomez: “You just came back in my life / You never gave up on me (Why don’t you?)/ I’ll never know what you see (Why won’t you?) / I don’t do well when alone (Oh yeah) / You hear it clear in my tone.” The “Blinding Lights” lyrics also allude to Hadid coming back to The Weeknd. A third song, “After Hours,” also appears to have him pining for Hadid and hoping for reconciliation. His 2018, Ep My Dear Melancholy, is believed to be about his relationship with Gomez, but he has never confirmed nor denied it.
The Weeknd reportedly just started dating singer Rosalía
Rumors have been swirling since late last year that The Weeknd is dating Rosalía, a Spanish singer who appeared in his “Blinding Lights” remix video. But it hasn’t been officially confirmed. Before The Weeknd’s “Blinding Lights,” relive the 2020 Super Bowl Halftime Performance.
