Camila Cabello, who was the last to turn, was the first to speak. She said, “You’re so cool. You look like a Californian. You’ve got that vibe about you. I loved how you sounded. I was so happy to turn around and see you play. What kind of music do you want to play?” Bodie answered, “I love it all. Pop, soul, R&B.” Camila, who has been having a great first season on The Voice, landing several of the four-chair turns, responded, “That’s fire. Blake is having a really, really bad run this season.” Blake agreed. John Legend joked, “He’s got the runs this season.” And Bodie demonstrated that he had a sense of humor as well as being a talented singer, by joking, “I actually heard about that backstage. It’s spreading around.” Then it was back to Camila getting a few more digs at Blake. “You’re funny, too,” she told Bodie. Then, “I’m actually interested to hear the thirst and desperation emanating…” Blake interrupted, “…from me? How easy will that be? I’m desperate, man! I think I hit my button first. I never play that card, but John says it all the time and he gets everybody on his team. Your voice is incredible. I don’t know why but I’m happy about it. We seem to have more rock-sounding artists auditioning this year. We always have a lot of R&B and…” Camila interrupted, saying, “You sound sad about it.” Blake: “No, I love rock. I just can hardly ever get anybody to be on my team.” Camila asked, “Is it because you’re a bad coach?” Blake finally insisted, “Stop talking and let me talk. Bodie, I love your voice. Everybody’s going to remember you, the way you look, the way you sound, you already are a funny guy. You have what it takes to make it to the finale of The Voice. You just got to pick the right coach that can get you there. I’ve been doing this a long time, man. Come on, let’s win this thing.” Then it was time for Gwen to make her pitch, She said, “I loved it. I loved the performance. Honestly, you have such an incredible tone. It’s just rare, so that means that you’re rare. I can hear you do so many songs where there’d be soaring melodies, but I feel that the alternative side of you could be a really cool place to go as well. That’s where my background is, obviously. I’ve been around for a long, long time. I’ve toured the world. I won The Voice with Carter Rubin. I would just love to be your coach. This is my time in my life to give back to somebody like you that has a dream, so I’m ready to do it.” And finally, John did his best to get Bodie on Team Legend, saying, “Your vocal presence was so robust and you put a certain amount of soul on it that was so cool and such a different take. It shows that you are a really interesting artist because you’re taking this song in a different genre and giving it your own personal stamp. I thought that was super cool. You really do stand out. You could do something really special, so congratulations and welcome.” Blake wrapped things up, begging one final time, “I’m going to say it one more time. I want you on my team. Let’s win this show together. Please!” Who does Bodie pick as his coach? He goes with Blake. “Brodie is the light at the end of the tunnel for me,” Blake said. “Everyone wanted Brodie and I got him.” The Voice airs on Monday and Tuesday nights at 8 p.m. ET/PT on NBC.
