“There’s a lot of books out about a possible coming civil war,” Robert exclusively tells Parade. “I think what they mean is some kind of skirmish between the left and the right. We’re doing that this year, but having our regular characters try to live in that world and work in that world as there’s more violence around them.” Another creative goal for the final season, which also deals with déjà vu, is to address some of the ongoing questions, such as how are Liz Reddick (Audra McDonald) and Diane Lockhart (Christine Baranski) going to get along, but also not answer others, like will Diane and Kurt McVeigh (Gary Cole), whose politics are polar opposites, stay married? Also as part of the déjà vu, the issue of Trump will be revisited. “The country does not seem done with Trump, so why would the characters be?” Michelle asks. And Robert adds, “We were talking with the writers’ room, and everybody was saying with all the politics going on it never feels like something’s finished. It always feels like it’s returning. So, we wanted to satirize that in this way that Christine Baranski’s character is dealing with the world.”
When does The Good Fight season 6 premiere?
The Good Fight begins streaming its sixth and final season on Thursday, Sept. 8 on Paramount+.
Who’s in the The Good Fight cast for season 6?
Christine Baranski as Diane Lockhart
Audra McDonald as Liz Reddick
John Slattery as Dr. Lyle Bettencourt
Andre Braugher as Ri’Chard Lane
Sarah Steele as Marissa Gold
Michael Boatman as Julius Cain
Nyambi Nyambi as Jay Dipersia
Charmaine Bingwa as Carmen Moyo
What do we know about Andre Braugher’s new character Ri’Chard Lane on The Good Fight?
Braugher will star as larger-than-life attorney Ri’Chard Lane, Liz’s new partner in the newly formed Reddick, Ri’Chard & Associates, and one she did not request. “He’s like a showrunner,” Richard said. “There are showrunners who almost overdo it and they consider themselves a brand. They’re qualified, they’re highly qualified, but they’re also show men or show women. I think, for us, we wanted someone in the law who makes himself the issue, who kind of considers himself a brand.” “He’s the epitome of confidence,” Michelle added. “And at least borderline arrogance. To see how that disrupts Liz’s world in particular is a lot of fun.” But there will be more to Ri’Chard than meets the eye, and it will take the season unfolding to find out what his ultimate goal is in joining Reddick, Ri’Chard & Associates. “He has a lot of secrets,” says Richard. “This is someone who presents himself as someone completely noble because he’s in a sense almost superficial in his arrogance, in his hubris. But, in fact, there are all these secrets underneath it that Liz’s going to find out more about."
What do we know about John Slattery’s new character on The Good Fight?
Slattery will play Dr. Lyle Bettencourt, a brilliant and unorthodox physician who helps Diane through a crazy time by administering the drug PT108 to her. “Diane has been pushed so far,” Michelle says. “It is a fictional drug. But people are going into these spa-like medical facilities and getting light, hallucinogenic treatments in an effort to feel better, so that part of the piece is real.” “I think Diane is really kind of seduced in a way by Lyle’s flattery,” Robert adds. “He seems very qualified, very much like someone she wants to spend her time with and learn from. I think she gives it one chance to experience it and it works so well and kind of eroticizes her life that she keeps going with it.”
Which guest stars from past seasons will pop into Season 6 of The Good Fight?
We will see the return of Alan Cumming as Eli Gold and also Carrie Preston as Elsbeth Tascioni to help bring the final season full circle. Photo Credit: Elizabeth Fisher/Paramount+ “It was partly like giving ourselves dessert,” Michelle said. “Just knowing this is the last season, we didn’t want to miss this last opportunity to see some of these characters that we adore. And we know that the audience enjoys, as well.
Will we find out what’s up with Peter (Chris Noth) and Alicia Florrick (Juliana Margulies), even though they will not make an appearance?
We will, but it will be in a passing conversation between Diane and Eli. “It felt like when Eli and Diane got together they would talk about the things they had in common,” Robert explained. “So, it would be a natural conversation. Also, it doesn’t seem like a bad idea to keep the audience in mind of that this is a world. Yes, it’s a fictional world but everybody that we’ve had on this show we try not to repeat in another character because we want the audience to feel like you could walk down the street and you might find Eli Gold there one day or Marissa there one day. Anyway, that was our sense to try to make it very real.”
Who left the The Good Fight cast in season 5?
Delroy Lindo exited his role as managing partner Adrian Boseman to enter politics, and Cush Jumbo quit her role as Lucca Quinn, who got an offer from one of her clients to work for her exclusively, and it was too good to turn down. Also, the season wrapped up the storyline with Mandy Patinkin, who played Hal Wackner, who, despite having no legal training, created his own court in the back of a copy shop.
Is there a trailer for The Good Fight season 6?
Definitely! Take a look as Diane Lockhart experiences a sense of déjà vu in the season 6 trailer, feeling she is back where she started six years ago.
This is a very special show. You’re able to cover politics and everything that’s going on in the world. What are you going to miss about it when you don’t have it to do anymore?
Michelle: I will miss a number of things. I know I will miss being in the writers’ room everyday with some of the smartest, wittiest, best-informed people I know. And to be able to talk about current events with that group has been a life saver. Not having that anymore will be rough. And then, also, to work with actors who are so talented that there’s nothing you can’t give them, that’s a privilege. Robert: I’ve never been in therapy, but I do think the writers’ room has been like group therapy. Someone takes whatever they believe is the issue of the day, brings it in the room and you take it apart and go, “what do I really feel about it? and you kind of put it back together again. It may not turn into a story, but you’ve had this therapy session about an issue. I do think I’m going to miss that. I hope I don’t go insane without that. Photo: Elizabeth Fisher /CBS
