In this alternate timeline, Picard is a ruthless general, taking the skulls of those he has defeated as trophies. Of course, Q can’t drop them in on a regular boring ho-hum day. Nope, he drops them on Eradication Day, a day that the Confederation rids itself of the dissidents they have in custody. This particular Eradication Day is meant to be a momentous one as they are set to eradicate the last of the Borg species when they kill the Borg Queen (Annie Wersching) they have in custody. The Borg Queen is cognizant of irregularities in time and pinpoints that point of divergence to Los Angeles 2024. With her help, Picard and his crew intend to time travel back to 2024 to right that wrong, but as they try to escape, Elnor (Evan Evagora) is shot by the First Magistrate (Jon Jon Briones) when he beams aboard the La Sirena and fires first and asks questions later. The actor who plays the First Magistrate happens to be the real-life father of Isa Briones, who plays Soji in the series. When I asked Isa Briones about the possibility of other family members appearing in future episodes of Picard, she laughed and said, “I would love that! Our whole family—we’re all actors and we just try to employ each other as much as possible because if your own family won’t do it, who’s gonna? We’re all each other’s managers.” Did you catch Patton Oswalt in the episode? Oswalt voiced Spot  73, Jurati’s (Alison Pill) virtual cat? In this week’s episode entitled, “Assimilation,” we’ll see if Elnor survives his injuries as Picard and the crew travel back to 2024 Los Angeles in search of the “Watcher,” someone who can help them identify the point at which time diverged (perhaps I’m the point of divergence when I choose a burger over a salad for lunch…) Seven (Jeri Ryan), Raffi (Michelle Hurd) and Rios (Santiago Cabrera) venture out into an unfamiliar world 400 years in their past, while Picard and Jurati attempt to gather information from an unlikely, and dangerous ally. “Assimilation” was directed by Back to the Future and Switched at Birth actress Lea Thompson who also directs the next episode of Picard. She previously directed episodes of Resident Alien and Stargirl. Check out the exciting Parade.com exclusive first look at “Assimilation” below. New episodes of Picard drop Thursdays on Paramount+.
