The tune is all about Hanukkah (also spelled Chanukah) and the celebrities who celebrate the holiday, like the comedian himself–including David Lee Roth, Goldie Hawn, and Kirk Douglas, to name a few. “When you feel like the only kid in town without a Christmas tree, here’s a list of people who are Jewish just like you and me; David Lee Roth lights the menorah,so do James Caan, Kirk Douglas, and the late Dinah Shore-ah,” Sandler sings before he lists off more Jewish celebrities. The song debuted in 1994 on the 20th season of the late-night comedy sketch show as part of the show’s “Weekend Update” segment, which coincided with the seventh night of the Jewish holiday that year. After the song was re-aired tonight, many fans took to social media to express their love for the skit all over again. “Just found the @nbcsnl holiday special and @AdamSandler singing the Chanukah song. My favorite. Love it.” one fan wrote. “Watching the SNL Christmas Special, and laughing a lot, especially at Eddie Murphy Elves, the Steve Martin 3 Wishes skit and Adam Sandler Hanukkah Song #snlchristmasspecial,” another fan wrote, sharing even more of their favorite sketches from past episodes that were revived tonight. “Highly underrated holiday song is the Chanukah Song,” someone else declared. One fan even shared a video of themselves watching Sandler’s performance as it re-aired this evening, writing in part, “Still laugh hard at @AdamSandler Hannukah Song, on the @nbcsnl Christmas Special. How do you feel about being a part of comedic history?” “@AdamSandler weekend update Hanukah skit is one of the best moments on live TV ever! Thanks for keeping making us laugh! #SNLChristmas” another fan tweeted. In case you missed the two-hour throwback show earlier this evening, you still have another chance to catch it! The Saturday Night Live Christmas Special will air again on Dec. 22 at 8/7c on NBC.
