Osbourne reportedly made a cool $1 million per season as a cohost of The Talk, more than many of her fellow panelists. She was on the show since its 2010 inception, appearing in a whopping 2,241 episodes before her exit. Reports claim that she may have been given a severance of between $5 million to $10 million following her 2021 firing from the show.
Sharon Osbourne became Ozzy Osbourne’s manager after her own father fired him
Osbourne’s father, Don Arden, was a pioneer in music management, known as “the Al Capone of pop.” Throughout his career, Arden managed the likes of Little Richard, Jerry Lee Lewis, Electric Light Orchestra and, most famously, Black Sabbath. He fired Ozzy Osbourne from the band, at which point Sharon stepped in and became the Aussie frontman’s manager herself. Sharon married Ozzy soon after and was estranged from Arden for nearly 20 years. Working with her husband proved lucrative for them both: She took Ozzy off Arden’s label and got him a new deal and has been instrumental in his career ever since. She also was behind the creation of Ozzfest, an annual music festival that she developed after Lollapalooza rejected Ozzy from its roster in the 1990s; tickets for Ozzfest reportedly grossed $150 million in its peak year. Sharon Osbourne judged The X Factor
In the U.K., Osbourne served as a mentor and judge of The X Factor (which was much bigger across the pond than its U.S. version!) from 2004 to 2007. She left the show in 2008, citing her dislike for fellow judge Dannii Minogue, but returned in 2013. In 2016, she renewed her contract for three more years, but left in 2018 following an interview with Howard Stern in which she denigrated both the show and its contestants on-air, calling the contestants “little sts” and the show itself “fking karaoke.” She said in a statement at the time of her exit, “After watching the new season The X Factor unfold, I’ve seen the new judges finding their rhythm and are doing brilliantly. Simon [Cowell] was so gracious to find me a spot on the live shows, but at this point, I really don’t think I’m needed and I would honestly feel odd coming in at this point. So I have decided to pass on the series this year. I wish the show continued success and as much as I love to get my face on TV you will have to do without me this season.” However, she later alleged that Cowell actually fired her because she was “too old” for the show. “I was signed to do another show. I was signed that I had to go to England, and then Simon Cowell changed his mind and thought I was too old," she recalled. I was under contract…I said, ‘I can’t, I have to go to England to do this,’ and then Simon Cowell goes, ‘She’s old. We need somebody young.’ So if you want young, fire yourself.” In any case, Osbourne reportedly made about $2.3 million per season of The X Factor.
Sharon Osbourne was a judge on America’s Got Talent
Osbourne first became a judge on America’s Got Talent in 2007, replacing Brandy Norwood. In her first season filming the show, she famously walked off the set while filming after her fellow judge Piers Morgan was harsh to a child contestant and her mother, calling Morgan’s behavior “appalling.” Osbourne judged Seasons 2 through 7 of the show before leaving in 2012. She later said that AGT had issues with sexism behind the scenes. “I’m going to be truthful. It is a boys’ club," she said on a December 2019 episode of The Talk. “The boys take care of each other and the women are not paid as much as the men.” She added that she was expected to fly commercial to audition events throughout the series, while Howie Mandelwas offered flights on private planes. “I don’t begrudge anyone earning what they earn, good for you, God bless you,” she said. “But when my old a** has been there moving the show? And I get an American Airlines ticket and he’s in a private plane? NBC can kiss my a**.” NBC was in a public feud with Gabrielle Union following her own exit from AGT and said in a statement at the time, “America’s Got Talent has a long history of inclusivity and diversity in both our talent and the acts championed by the show. The judging and host line-up has been regularly refreshed over the years and that is one of the reasons for AGT’s enduring popularity. NBC and the producers take any issues on set seriously.”
Sharon Osbourne judged Rock of Love: Charm School
Despite earning her own fame and fortune employing many of the allegedly “bad” habits of the women featured on Rock of Love (namely cursing, fighting and making otherwise questionable choices), Osbourne went on to judge Season 2 of Rock of Love: Charm School on VH1. The series aired in October 2008, and it wasn’t without its own behind-the-scenes drama as well: During the series’ reunion special, Osbourne struck contestant Megan Hauserman after Hauserman dissed Osbourne’s husband Ozzy. Hauserman later filed a police report and sued Osbourne; the matter was settled out of court for an undisclosed sum.
