This was William and Kate’s first solo outing as the Prince and Princess of Wales. They traveled to the Norfolk where flowers have been left in the queen’s memory at the gates to the Sandringham estate. The queen used to spend every Christmas at Sandringham House where she would host other members of the royal family over the holiday period. It was here that the royals were annually photographed on the traditional walk to Christmas service in the estate’s small church. Princess Kate wore a long black coat, a black pleated skirt, a silver cross pendant and pearl earrings that belonged to the queen. The princess was photographed escorting an 8-year-old schoolgirl to leave a toy corgi at the sea of floral tributes. She carried a bouquet of flowers on the girl’s behalf. At the queen’s coffin procession the day before Kate wore a veiled black hat like that of her sister-in-law Duchess Meghan. She also wore the late Princess Diana’s pearl drop earrings and a large diamond and pearl leaf brooch that belonged to the queen. Kate is the first Princess of Wales since Diana’s death in 1997.
