Kate and Prince William also paid tribute to the Duke of Edinburgh on their own Instagram account, posting a photograph of their young family with the queen and Philip that was taken at Balmoral back in 2015. They wrote, “Today we share, along with Members of @theroyalfamily, photographs of The Duke of Edinburgh, remembering him as a father, grandfather and great-grandfather.” In the photograph, the queen grins at a baby Charlotte in the Duchess of Cambridge’s arms, while the Duke of Cambridge holds George by the hand. The photograph appears to have been taken on the same day that George was pictured riding with his great-grandfather in a carriage, which was posted to the Cambridges’ Instagram account earlier this year accompanied by a statement by Prince William in which he paid tribute to his late grandfather, who died on April 9. Describing Philip as “an extraordinary man”, he said, “I feel lucky to have not just had his example to guide me, but his enduring presence well into my own adult life—both through good times and the hardest days.
