The idea got so big that director Rian Johnson seriously considered it, and while his initial comments were that it couldn’t happen, a new tweet seemingly hints at a potential change of heart. On Dec. 22, Netflix Tudum’s site published an article entitled, “Could Benoit Blanc Meet the Muppets?” Johnson spoke with Tudum about a possible crossover movie, saying, “I feel like in order to make it well and make it work, you’d have to make a choice and compromise one or the other. If I ever make a Muppet movie, I just want to make a great Muppet movie.” That seemed to be the end of it, until author Kelly Knox proposed a compelling alternative idea, tweeting, “What about … a holiday special” Well, Johnson seemed quite supportive of the concept with his short but to-the-point response. Brian Lynch, the screenwriter behind The Secret Life of Pets, Puss in Boots, and Minions, also offered his help, though considering Johnson usually writes and directs his films, he’d probably want to do it on his own. While this is not at all a confirmation that this will happen, it’s an interesting idea that Johnson seems to like. A holiday special would definitely give him some extra freedom to explore the worlds of Knives Out and The Muppets. James Gunn found great success with his recent The Guardians of the Galaxy Holiday Special that premiered on Disney+, and many shows like Doctor Who regularly do popular specials. It’s obvious that fans are clamoring for a Knives Out and Muppets crossover, with one response to Johnson’s tweet saying, “OK BUT SERIOUSLY PLEASE. I’LL DO ANYTHING TO GET THIS MADE.” Another person tweeted something similar, pleading with the director, “Rian please. I am BEGGING you to do this. We need this.” Fans will just have to sit tight and see if this crossover actually comes to fruition!
