Katy Perry announced she was expecting her first child with fiancé Orlando Bloom in March 2020, smack dab in the middle of Idol’s third ABC season. She remained as a judge on the show through the end of the season, and even made appearances on other ABC specials such as the Disney Sing-Alongs. On August 26, 2020, she gave birth to her daughter, Daisy Dove Bloom. The new arrival came two days before the release of her album Smile, which debuted at No. 5 on the Billboard charts.
When did American Idol 2021 film?
This season of Idol looked very different than the previous ones due the COVID-19 pandemic. Auditions technically started in August 2020, but in the form of a preliminary round where the superstar wannabes performed virtually for producers. They would then decide who moved on to perform in person for the judges, avoiding the cattle call proceedings of the show’s usual auditions. Additionally, in-person auditions were limited to three different locations across California: Los Angeles, San, Diego and Ojai. Those auditions, which included the full judging panel seated at separate tables, started on October 5, 2020.

According to the timeline, no! Perry saddled up to start judging the show in early October, a little over a month after giving birth to her daughter, Daisy.
