Although it’s not even Christmas yet, NYC is already gearing up for the big day (or rather, night), with the arrival of the “2023” light-up sign in Times Square. According to w42st.com, the sign traveled across the country from Los Angeles, California to NYC, and arrived on Dec. 20. It is seven feet tall and consists of 602 energy-efficient LED bulbs. The sign will be in Times Square for photo ops until 12 p.m. on Dec. 23. After that, the sign will be placed atop the One Times Square skyscraper where it will light up the square during the NYE TV broadcast. Actress Teresa Hui already got her photo this year, rocking 2023 glasses in NYC for the sign’s arrival. This year, there is also a unique opportunity to be a direct part of the night’s celebration through the New Year’s Eve Wishing Wall. When the ball drops as it becomes the new year, thousands of pounds of confetti drop on Times Square, and this year, you can write a message of what you wish for in 2023 on one of those confetti pieces. The Wishing Wall is up in Times Square where you can leave your message on confetti, which will be placed inside the ball on NYE. The wall will be open from 11 a.m. to 8 p.m. each day until Dec. 29, excluding Dec. 25. If you put your message on the board after Dec. 28, it will be added to the confetti for next year’s ball drop. Tom Harris, President of the Times Square Alliance, said in a statement: “The New Year offers people a unique chance to reflect and simultaneously look forward by defining their goals and dreams for a better future. Revelers celebrating in Times Square and everyone watching on TV will kick off the new year with hope and joy as they watch confetti fall from the sky, filled with people’s wishes and aspirations for a new year.” Of course, not everyone is able to travel to Times Square to write the message themselves, but thankfully, you can also send in your message online. You can either fill out the form online or share it on Twitter or Instagram with the hashtag #ConfettiWish, and it will be printed and added to the many other wishes that will fall over Times Square this NYE.
