The game is both visually stunning—it comes in a fancy cigar box!—and a great time, with more than 2,200 questions and answers focused on the 1950s, 1960s and 1970s. The game is a road trip down memory lane for Baby Boomers, with questions about everything from Beatles lyrics, marijuana and the moon landing to the Women’s Rights Movement, Vietnam and I Love Lucy. Aside from simply being an innovative approach to trivia with some edgier subjects sprinkled in, the game also will spark a slew of fun and revealing conversations not just between and among Boomers, but also with younger generations. Boom Again is a great option for gift-giving in 2021, and there’s even a guide to playing socially distanced versions of the game since Boomers started connecting on Zoom while quarantining and are still enjoying that social mixer. If you already have it and love it, know that more tokens (including the ever-enduring mood ring) are coming soon—and possibly some expansion packs eventually as well, though we doubt you’ll need them because there are So…Many…Questions! Here’s everything to know about Boom Again and why it’s going to guarantee a more than OK (Boomer) time.

How much is the game Boom Again?

Boom Again’s $45 price is a reflection of the kind of high quality Baby Boomers value (right down to the real metal SKATE KEY token, the JFK button and even the ROACH CLIP token). The 4.5-pound game includes free shipping throughout most of the United States. You can order it here.

How do you play Boom Again?

Playing in teams reduces individual intimidation and multiplies the memory power available. In fact, often one player’s partial memory triggers a teammate’s correct answer! Teams alternate turns and play a game of tug-of-war trying to “tug” the fantastic tokens off the board and out of play. If your team answers correctly, tug the token from that category closer to your team’s side of the board. If the opposite team chooses the same category and answers their question correctly, they can pull their token closer to their side of the board. The first team to collect three tokens wins.

What are the categories for Boom Again?

Boom Again categories divide players’ memory file cabinets into unique sections like “THINGS WE HEARD,” which hones in on popular music, jingles and speeches from the Boomer era, and “THINGS WE SAW” about Boomer TV and movies. “THINGS WE LEARNED IN SCHOOL” covers everything from schoolyard games to school dances and even elementary spelling tests, while “STUFF WE LEARNED ON THE STREET” covers everything from the drug culture, to slang expressions and dating. The “SHOUT” category is the one that creates the most group singing (and the laughter that causes!).

What makes Boom Again different from other games?

For one, the trivia itself has been curated by Boomers with an emphasis on their pop culture experiences. What’s more, there are no time limits or buzzers, so you and your fellow players can take time to reminisce and take your time racking your brain for answers. The combination of collaborative responses in the “SHOUT” category with the rest of the individual trivia questions and answers makes Boom Again both a team effort and one in which you can show off your own special expertise and knowledge in any given area. What’s more, some questions will have you literally singing and dancing your responses, so don’t be shy!

Is Boom Again just for Baby Boomers?

Though Boom Again was obviously made with Boomers in mind, if you’re an older soul but a younger adult, you’ll enjoy this: As an avid watcher of everything Norman Lear has ever created, as well as a history nerd and a sucker for oldies songs, I was able to (mostly!) keep up with my parents. It was also an added bonus to remember singing along to songs with them in the car and watching their favorite sitcoms together when I was at home sick from school as a kid, and chances are you’ll have those memories, too. Of course, there’s also the knowledge that you may have to hear them sing, and with my entire bloodline being rather tone-deaf, that wasn’t the most pleasant experience—but it surely was a hilarious one.
